Manosplint™ Splinting Material
Allows for exceptional control during the fabrication process, especially if the patient is unable to assist with positioning.
- Carolina compares to “Orthoplast”.
- Ohio compares to “Orthoplast II”.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE
Manosplint® is a low temperature thermoplastic material used to fabricate splints, orthoses and rehabilitation aids.
Heating Methods, Temperature & Working Time:
Hot Water Method: 140° – 162°F (60° – 72°C) for 1-2 minutes with a forming working time of 2-4 minutes depending on material thickness and the degree in which the material was stretched. Manosplint® Ohio and Manosplint® Ohio S turn translucent when heated.
Dry Heat Oven Method: 176° – 194°F (80° – 90°C) for 3-5 minutes with a forming working time of 2-4 minutes depending on material thickness and the degree in which the material was stretched. Manosplint® Ohio and Manosplint® Ohio S turn translucent when heated.
Patterns & Cutting:
A pattern can be drawn directly on the sheet material with a scratch awl. Thicker material may require scoring first with a utility knife and then bending at the score. Cut the pattern with heavy duty shears or scissors. Finish trimming with scissors. Note, warming the material to soften it slightly (not heating all the way) will aid in the ease of cutting.
Forming the Splint:
Utilize desired heating method. Moderate resistive materials require smooth strokes while maximum resistive material will require a firmer hand. Manosplint® Ohio S and Manosplint® Carolina are uncoated “sticky” materials. This "stickiness" will aid in application by keeping the material in place. This will also allow for a permanent bond. Coated materials (Manosplint® Ohio and Manosplint® Wisconsin) can form a temporary bond by pinching the material together, or a permanent bond if the coating is removed by scraping or with a solvent.
Finishing & Adjusting:
Manosplint® thermoplastic splints can be adjusted with a heat gun or by dipping in hot water. Edges will remain smooth and closed. Splints maintain their shape while using low heat for fitting and adjustments. Manosplint® Ohio and Manosplint® Ohio S have 100% memory and, if reheated can, return to their original shapes.
